How to change ripping file output format(s) on the RipNAS

The RipNAS default setting is to rip all CDs to FLAC. You may set the encoder to rip to multiple formats using these instructions.

  1. Use the Windows Home Server console from the PC desktop or directly on the RipNAS from your PC or Mac using Remote Desktop. The computer name is ripnas and use the username administrator and corresponding password (See Remote Desktop Connection to Windows Home Server)
  2. Click on the Settings link in the top right of the Windows Home Server Console main screen
  3. Click on the RipNAS icon in the left hand column list.
  4. Select the option [Multi Encoder] from the Encoder drop down list.
  5. Click on the Settings button to the right of the encoder drop down list
  6. Click Add Encoder and select the desired encoder (FLAC for example) and any additional settings (bit rate etc).
  7. Set the first encoder (typically the lossless format) to output to folder D:\shares\Music
  8. Set the first encoder Dynamic setting to be:
    [MAXLENGTH]200,[IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album]\[track] [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[artist] - [track][] - [title][]

  9. Click Add Encoder for additional encoders.

  10. Set the output folder to something other than D:\shares\Music - we recommend D:\shares\Public\MP3 for MP3 files or D:\shares\Public\WMA for Windows Media Audio for example.
  11. Set the Dynamic setting for each encoder to be the same as above:
    [MAXLENGTH]200,[IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album]\[track] [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[artist] - [track][] - [title][]

  12. Click OK once all the required encoders have been added

  13. Close the Windows Home Server Settings dialog
  14. Insert a previously unripped CD and confirm that required formats are created in the desired output folders.
